Care and Maintenance

Care and Maintenance

Sterling silver should be polished frequently to preserve its bright lustre.

Caring for Your Jewellery

Each hand-finished piece of Pandora jewellery is crafted from high-quality materials, including sterling silver (92.5% pure silver), oxidised sterling silver, Pandora Rose (a 14k rose gold-plated unique metal blend), Pandora Shine (18k gold-plated unique metal blend) and solid 14k gold. Pandora jewellery is nickel safe. Nickel is a naturally occurring element that is present in most alloy metals. We test our jewellery to ensure that it complies with safe global levels of nickel content.

Do Remember

Pandora jewellery pieces come with special care instructions. It’s important that you follow these to keep your jewellery under warranty. Your local Pandora store can explain proper care for your specific Pandora product.

Quick Care Tip

To keep your jewellery looking beautiful, it should be the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night.

General Instructions

• POLISH frequently with a soft polishing cloth to maintain the shine. A polishing cloth won’t remove scratches, so it’s important that you protect your jewellery. You can buy polishing cloths and care kits from your local Pandora store.

• STORE jewellery separately in a tarnish-resistant jewellery box or jewellery pouch and keep it away from abrasive surfaces.

• SHADE freshwater cultured pearls and leather from direct sunlight or strong lighting, to prevent fading.

• HANDLE jewellery with love and care, especially freshwater cultured pearls, mother of pearl, glass charms and charms made entirely of a stone (with a metal core). Be extra careful not to drop them on the floor or knock them against hard surfaces as this could hurt their delicate structures.

• REMOVE jewellery prior to swimming, bathing and doing sports or other physical activity.

• LIMIT CONTACT with make-up, creams, perfume and lotions.

• AVOID silver dips, polishing liquids, ultrasonic cleaning and strong chemicals.

• TAKE CARE OF the hidden silicone grips that some designs feature to keep jewellery fixed in perfect position. They are sensitive, so don’t use the dips and chemicals we mention above or expose them to extreme hot or cold temperatures. This could weaken the silicone’s gripping ability.

• GET AN ANNUAL SERVICE: If you wear your jewellery a lot, it’s a good idea to take it to a goldsmith at least once a year so they can check the clasps, mountings and soldered details.

The cleaning instructions describe and outline care for all Pandora jewellery and collections, from Moments to Pandora ESSENCE COLLECTION and Pandora Reflexions.

Choose the care instructions based on the metal of your jewellery and its embellishments.

Sterling silver, oxidised sterling silver, Pandora Rose, Pandora Shine, 14k gold (and silicone grips in charms).

Natural stones, gemstones, synthetic stones, man-made stones.

Clean with a soft brush and soapy water. Add a small amount of mild soap to lukewarm water and use a soft toothbrush to brush the jewellery gently in a circular motion. Toothbrushes are ideal for cleaning jewellery with patterns. If the dirt is hard to remove, soak the jewellery in the soapy water for 5-10 minutes.

You can leave the jewellery in our gentle, Pandora-approved cleaning solution for around 2 minutes. However, if you’re using another brand of cleaning solution to clean your jewellery, always read the instructions and timings and check that it’s suitable for plated jewellery (if you’re cleaning Pandora Rose and Pandora Shine).

For a safe and easy option that covers all types of Pandora jewellery, we recommend using the Pandora-approved cleaning solution which is part of our Pandora Jewellery Cleaner Set and is available in stores and online.

Never soak freshwater cultured pearls in water or rub them harshly as this could damage the nacre. Instead, wipe them over with a very soft, clean cloth that has been dampened in lukewarm soapy water. Then pat dry. Follow these steps for mother of pearl. Wearing pearls and mother of pearl is one of the best ways of caring for it, as contact with natural skin oils help maintain the lustre of the gem.

If a lacquered artificial pearl (a crystal core coated with an innovative lacquer resembling the pearlescence of a pearl) is a little dusty, dust it with a clean, dry antistatic cloth. If dirt has built up, gently wipe it with a clean microfibre or lint-free cotton cloth that has been dampened in lukewarm soapy water, then pat it dry with a clean, dry cloth.

For daily care, polish the glass with a soft lint-free cloth (that doesn’t have any fibres). To clean the glass, gently wipe it over with a soft lint-free cloth dampened with lukewarm water that has a small amount of liquid soap dissolved in it. Wipe the glass again with water (without soap) then pat it dry with a soft cloth. You can also use a small amount of mineral oil at the end to create extra radiance.

For daily cleaning, simply wipe the leather gently with a soft, dry cloth. Stains should be removed immediately before they soak in or dry – use a mild professional cleaner (without chemicals) or a mild soap such as soap flakes or saddle soap. Create suds in a bowl and apply the suds to a soft, lint-free cloth, then wipe the leather. Afterwards, wipe the leather with a dry cloth and add a leather conditioner to protect it further. Remember to keep leather out of direct sunlight.

If your bracelet gets a bit dirty, don’t put it in water as this may damage or discolour the fibres. Instead, run a slightly dampened white cotton cloth over it, taking care not to rub the fabric too vigorously. For stains, act fast. Run, not rub, the dampened cloth in a circular motion, starting from the outside edge of the stain and moving into the centre of it. Apply a special fabric guard solution after cleaning if possible.

The unique surface effect on Matte Brilliance jewellery requires more frequent cleaning as dirt can gather in the recessed areas over time. To keep it clean, simply soak the jewellery in our specially formulated, gentle cleaning solution (available in the new Pandora Jewellery Cleaner Set) for up to 15 minutes.

Uniqueness Factors

Each Pandora glass charm is unique because of the small variations in the design, colour and size, small glass bubbles and the handcrafted details inside the glass. These variations showcase the high level of craftsmanship that brings each glass design to life.

As genuine leather is a lovely natural product, you might notice small, subtle changes as it ages. For instance, the leather may stretch and relax over time, or you might notice small variations in colour and thickness. This is completely normal and part of the leather’s beauty.

Oxidation and plating on metal does naturally fade over time – this is normal wear and tear, not a defect – but how quickly this happens is down to how you look after your jewellery. Did you know that sweat, chlorine, perfumes, and cleaning agents like liquid silver polish or dip can all cause oxidation to fade faster? It’s true. The best thing to do is follow the protection and cleaning instructions we mention.

Pandora has a wide selection of bracelets and bangles that you can style with charms to express yourself and your style. Moments and Pandora ESSENCE COLLECTION bracelets and bangles can be filled entirely with charms. Pandora Reflexions bracelets can be worn with up to 8 – 12 clip charms. The shortest Pandora Reflexions bracelet size (15cm) holds a maximum of 8 clip charms, while the longest (21cm) holds a maximum of 12. Leather bracelets can be styled with up to nine charms, and fabric cord bracelets (from previous collections) can hold four charms.

Moments, Pandora ESSENCE COLLECTION and Pandora Reflexions bracelets each have their own selection of specially designed charms. You can style the different bracelets together (e.g. by stacking), but you can’t swap charms between them due to their different designs and functionalities. Remember to match the right charm design with the right bracelet, to prevent damage and keep your jewellery under warranty.

Pandora Moments & Pandora ESSENCE COLLECTION: A perfect fit for a charm bracelet or bangle is when there’s no more than a thumb’s width of space between your wrist and the bracelet/ bangle. Measure your wrist, then add 1-2 cm. Moments snake chain bracelets will stretch slightly over time as you add more charms and increase the weight, therefore it’s best to start with a fairly snug fit. If you plan on wearing more than 5 charms, go one size up to make sure there’s enough room between the charms and your wrist.

Ultrasonic Cleaning

Ultrasonic cleaners must always be used with care. They are ideal for cleaning most metal jewellery without stones (excluding oxidised sterling silver and plated jewellery). If the jewellery piece contains stones, always follow the instructions provided for the specific stone. Do not clean wood, leather and glass in an ultrasonic cleaner. Follow the instructions for the ultrasonic cleaner carefully and make sure to use the right cleaning solution and the proper temperature.

Allergic Reactions

Pandora jewellery is made from high-quality materials including sterling silver, 14k gold, Pandora Rose & Pandora Shine without added nickel and, as a result, our customers seldom experience allergic reactions. We do not add nickel to the Pandora silver and gold alloys but naturally occurring trace amounts of nickel may be present in the jewellery. However, these amounts are so low that only people who are hypersensitive may react to them.

Nickel Disclosure

It is legally compliant to use the phrases “nickel free” or “nickel safe” if trace elements are within acceptable levels. While copper is used as a key component in the alloys that Pandora uses, we do not intentionally add lead or nickel. However, natural occurring trace amounts may still be present. Laboratory tests prove that these amounts are well below those permitted by strict European regulations, and Pandora alloys are technically classified as “nickel free.”

Some metals may react with your skin to produce a discoloration and copper is especially well known for causing this reaction. As Pandora Rose is rich in copper content, some people may experience a green discolouration of their skin caused by a chemical reaction between acids in their skin and the metal of the jewellery piece or a reaction between the metal and another substance on the hand, such as a lotion. The green colour is not harmful in itself and can easily be removed with water and soap.
